The Lippe-Bad was the first public indoor swimming hall in Germany to be built to the passive house standard and replaced two existing sqimming halls on the River Lippe.

The swimming hall offers a total of five pools with diving facilities, including nine 25-metre lanes, a moving floor pool, warm and recreational pools and a toddler pool. There is also a relaxation area and seating areas for gastronomy. Large façade openings in combination with skylight strips ensure an optimal supply of daylight.

In addition to energy efficiency and minimising operating costs, particular attention was paid to user comfort through barrier-free accessibility, the use of automatic doors and very good room acoustics, to which not only acoustically effective wall and ceiling surfaces but also inclined façade and roof surfaces contribute. A former district heating plant from the 1960s was renovated to make it suitable for passive houses and integrated into the new building.
