With the redesign of the façade and the new commercial space concept, the WEMPE flagship store now unites its premises in the face of a dignified, yet modern commercial unit that is in keeping with the historical context.

At Kurfuerstendamm 215, two shop windows on the façade level related to the historical building axes replace the existing natural stone cladding and the ground floor façade of the former jewellery shop, which has been moved into the building. At Kurfuerstendamm 214, the bay of the façade was extended to form a two-storey entrance portal, so that the ground floor is dominated by an entrance door set far back into the building.

The two internal staircases between the ground floor and first floor have been removed and the ceiling openings largely closed. In the ‘Berliner Zimmer (Berlin room)’, the transition from the front building to the side wing, a new, almost square ceiling opening was created and a newly designed internal staircase was installed. The construction and fit-out planning as well as the interior design were carried out by Planungsbuero Anna Nicolas, Hamburg.

The first floor comprises a large-format shop window recessed to the depth of the façade pillar. The merging of the two commercial areas is also visible from the outside through the façade design, which echoes the materiality and effect of the original plaster façade with its ashlar plaster.
