Years of intensive use as well as major and minor conversions meant that a fundamental refurbishment, modernisation and energy upgrade were necessary. Both the façades and the roofs of the buildings could no longer fulfil the thermal insulation criteria.

In the course of the modernisation and extension work, the group of buildings was not only given a modern and uniform appearance - the architects also endeavoured to achieve high energy efficiency and an appealing, user-friendly interior design.

The new entrance areas and all work areas were designed to be barrier-free. Particular emphasis was placed on sustainability in the new, distinctive façade design. After completion, the project was awarded LEED Gold certification. The new modernised complex is mainly used by the Labour Court/Land Labour Court and the Higher Regional Court.
