Spandauer Vorstadt is the largest contiguous ensemble of listed buildings in Berlin. Here, TCHOBAN VOSS Architekten renovated a residential and commercial building constructed in the mid-18th century and added a modern, sensitively adapted new building in the courtyard.

The historic building fabric was largely preserved. The roofs were carefully remodelled and fitted with modern skylights and roof terraces. The shop windows were enlarged.

In contrast, the newly constructed penthouse on the western side wing and a four-storey extension to the eastern side wing are deliberately modern additions to the historic structure. With the exception of the listed stairwells, the interiors were largely gutted and the floor plans of the flats were reorganised.
