Hamburg, 2018

Directly next to the listed building of the Old Post Office, on the lively Bleichenfleet in Hamburg's city center, a new commercial building with retail use was built. It fills a gap 80 meters deep and only 14 meters wide.

The new six-storey building blends seamlessly into its surroundings and cleverly mediates between its neighbors: the The different eaves heights are continued and united by angled sections in the façade. The streetscape remains coherent, while the independent character of the building is emphasized by staggering.

The rich architectural language of the surrounding area with its traditional brick buildings is reflected in the façades. Floor-to-ceiling windows with discreet anodized aluminium frames structure the surfaces. On the upper floors elegant glass balustrades are used as elements of French windows.
