The General German Shipwrights’ Cooperative is constructing a new residential building on its 5,700 sqm site at the corner of Fuhlsbuettler Strasse and Ilandkoppel in Hamburg-Ohlsdorf. The project comprises 43 rental apartments as well as a commercial unit intended for a medical practice.

In connection with the construction works, the former headquarters of the Shipwrights located on this site, along with the adjoining residential building, were dismantled. The new headquarters (also TVA) relocated to its new premises at Ruebenkamp 240 in the first quarter of 2024.

The building is designed as a five-storey residential block with a set-back top floor at the corner of Fuhlsbuettler Strasse and Ilandkoppel. Along Fuhlsbuettler Strasse, the building volume follows the established building line of the neighbouring properties. The overall ensemble is divided into three sections through a subtle forward and backward stepping of individual building elements and through the use of different facing bricks. The unifying design principle of all sections is a consistent, regular perforated façade with rectangular window openings and loggias.
