The sustainable wood-hybrid project Dockyard has won at the 2026 Green Good Design Awards! The international prize for sustainable design is awarded by the European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies and The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design. GOOD DESIGN™ was founded in Chicago in 1950 by Eero Saarinen, Charles and Ray Eames, and Edgar Kaufmann, Jr. to promote and foster a greater public understanding and acceptance for Modern Design.
Dockyard comprises a square and a rectangular building connected by a glass bridge featuring an exposed timber truss structure. By using certified wood, recycled concrete, and green steel, Dockyard minimizes its environmental footprint. To achieve net-zero operation without the use of fossil fuels, Dockyard relies on renewable energy sources for its energy supply: solar energy, geothermal energy, and ambient air. One of Germany’s largest ice storage systems is a central and efficient component of this energy concept. The roof features 1,250 m² of solar hybrid collectors and 300 m² of photovoltaic modules. The combination of all these sources results in an energy concept that keeps the entire operation climate-neutral in accordance with LEED Zero Carbon requirements. The usage concept creates ideal conditions for a sustainable work environment—flexible and demand-oriented.
