Adina Apartment Hotel Checkpoint Charly
Berlin | 2008
Apartment-Hotel as a new corner building with renovation and extension of a listed building as well as underground car park

This 19th century building in Krausenstraße, which is protected as a historic building, is being completely renovated and rebuilt and moreover supplemented by a new distinctive building to a four star apartment house with 126 luxury apartments. It will respectfully take up the old trade house's storey heights of about 3.80 meters without historicizing appearance. Thus the facade of the annex will be strictly grated but, unlike the old building, have glazings the full height of its rooms, loggias and its own façade materials. The base storey of the new building offers room for restaurant and conference areas behind its dark facade of natural stone and large windows, whereas in the old building public zones such as the lobby and reception will be situated here. The wellness area with swimming pool, fitness room, sauna and whirlpool will be integrated in the basement of the old building, in addition to a new underground garage. The historic, decorative parts of the old building are its inner courtyard, which with its clinker facades is reminiscent of the Hackesche Höfe, its facade toward Krausenstrasse and its historic staircase with its art nouveau elements.
