Museum for Architectural Drawing
Berlin-Mitte | 2013
Construction of a new Museum for the Tchoban Foundation, local representation

This four-story building represents a stack of solid cuboid volumes with a glass penthouse on top, the latter being staggered back from the street. On the northeast wall of the building the transparent top floor protrudes the lower floors by about one meter, just as solid, enclosed jutties loom from each of the four floors below, spraying the building's basic geometrics. These bays are alternately disposed to the front and the rear corners of the north façade, and protrude the façade at different angles. Two large openings are located on the front and the rear of the building. While the openings on the ground and on the first floor have been formed as recesses, generating an entrance niche and a loggia, the rear openings on second and fourth floor are glazed level with the façade, acting as conservatories. Apart from the flush glazings the building appears as a massive concrete body. By means of pictorial concrete moulds showing large scale architectural representations the jutties allude to the role and content of the building.
